This is the photo I based my Smashed potato project on. The artist is Katy Grannan. I liked the photo because of the ridiculous feel to it. Grannan changes the rules of "beauty" to her own will. There are distinct characteristics that make this photo appear like a "vogue" photo shoot. In my Smashed potato video, I created a ridiculous scenario that still comes out with the same results. Mashed Potatoes. Like Grannan, I followed the basic guidelines to make it still feel original in its meaning. I was able to make the tweak through literally smashing potatoes in crazy ways. In order to make sure I still followed the backbone of rules to make it appear like it should, I gave my video more of a cooking show feel. Cooking shows have an introduction, the act of making the food, and closing which involves eating the food at the very end. That backbone allowed me to change the typical (boring) content in the middle. The middle content successfully conveyed that I was making mashed potatoes even though it was not the conventional way. This is what made my video grasp the same meaning Grannan uses in her Photography.

This video plays off of the stereotypes of cooking shows. Smashed potato's takes apart the structure and mocks it by utilizing the crazy actions in the video to make "mashed potatoes".
